In early June of this year, iHome, along with plenty of other companies, issued a publicity push for their HomeKit compatible devices, like iHome’s “iSP5 Smartplug.”
While availability for the smart device was limited back then, the company has officially announced that it’s now available for a wider audience, for those interested. The iSP5 Smartplug will allow owners to make any regular item, like a lamp or a fan, to get an injection of connectedness, thanks to the plug. Siri can be used, too, so controlling those items with just the user’s voice is possible.
On top of controlling a single device, the iOS app will let users group SmartPlugs into scenes, which can then be manipulated to control entire rooms of products plugged into the smart device. The owner can also create timers and schedules with the SmartPlug from iHome, making turning on or off items as simple as waiting for the right time to roll around.
iHome says that the SmartPlug is just the beginning, with an entire series of products being designed to take full advantage of Apple’s HomeKit. It’s worth noting, too, that the SmartPlug doesn’t require some extra hub, either, working solely from the plug and a Wi-Fi connection.
