Arizona Diamondbacks coach Ariel Prieto has been fined by the Major League Baseball for wearing an Apple Watch in the dugout during the Wednesday night game against Colorado Rockies. The MLB rule bans the players and coach from wearing or using any electronic device.
The coach and his team both were fined an undisclosed amount, with the fine amount being donated to hurricane-relief efforts in Puerto Rico. During the interview regarding this matter, Prieto said that it was an honest mistake on his part for wearing the Apple Watch during the game. The MLB did not find anything suspicious in Prieto’s phone or watch and so the team and the coach were let off with just a fine.
“M.L.B. found no evidence that Mr. Prieto used the Apple Watch or cellphone for any purpose in the dugout, nor any baseball-related communication on either device during Wednesday’s game,” the statement on Friday said.
Last month, the Major Basketball League had fined the Boston Red Sox for using the Apple Watch in their dugout for communicating with each other.
