For the first time in ‘Entourage’ history, it didn’t all work out in the end.
The big screen version of the long-running HBO wish-fulfillment exercise arrived in theaters last week and its opening weekend box office performance was a lot more “Medillin” than “Aquaman.”
According to Box Office Mojo, “Entourage” took in $10.4 million in its opening weekend, good for fourth on the weekend behind “Spy,” “San Andreas” and “Insidious: Chapter 3.” This indicates that the Entourage die-hards may have come out to see the film, but there aren’t that many of them, and not many others saw it.
So why did this happen? Was it because “Entourage” was gone for four years? Because no one in the cast has any kind of box office clout? Or was it my pet theory about how the level of douchebaggery with which ‘Entourage’ is synonymous has become considerably more frowned-upon in the last couple of years than it was in the show’s time? Whatever reason, there’s probably not going to be an ‘Entourage 2.”
