For as long as there’s been turn-by-turn navigation, there have been ways to get celebrities or famous fictional characters to read your directions to you. My personal favorite is probably the ability, offered various times over the years, to turn your car into KITT from Knight Rider.
Now, you can get your directions from an even bigger star- one with a famously impenetrable accent. Yes, as a tie-in with the new “Terminator” movie, Wave is offering the option of using Arnold Schwarzenegger’s voice to read directions.
USA Today broke the story:
To land Schwarzenegger, Waze formed a partnership with Paramount Studios that could give it a leg up in the battle against competitors such as GoogleMaps and Navigon. Waze has skyrocketed in growth from 15 million users in 2012 to its current 50 million…. Schwarzenegger required a one-hour recording session to provide the automated prompts for Waze — everything from routine commands such as “turn left” to Ah-nuld-isms such as “Hasta la vista, Baby” at the end of the journey.
Sure, it’s ridiculous to get directions from someone with that heavy an accent. But not any more ridiculous than the idea of a 70-year-old killer robot:
