Apple Employees Testing Apple Pay Cash With iOS 11.1

Apple Pay Cash was showcased along with iOS 11 earlier this year, but the feature wasn’t ready to go with the public launch of Apple’s next big mobile operating system.

As a result, there has been a lot of speculation regarding when the feature will launch. Apple had already confirmed that it would arrive with a subsequent update to iOS 11, but with no specific launch date to circle on the calendar. Most rumors pointed to a late-October launch, though, and one new report may point to that becoming a reality.

According to a forum poster over at MacRumors, a customer spoke with an Apple employee who is currently testing Apple Pay Cash, by way of iOS 11.1. There is also a device certificate being passed internally within the company, allowing access to the feature.

The forum post includes a pair of images, one of which is the set-up process for the feature, and the other the attempt that the customer and employee made trying to send money to one another. It didn’t work, though, as one might imagine, as both devices didn’t support Apple Pay Cash at the time.

When Apple Pay Cash does arrive, which looks like it will be with iOS 11.1 at some point in the near future, it will allow for users to quickly send cash to friends and family members through iMessage.
