I should clarify. From Software’s Hideteka Miyazaki, the director of Dark Souls, Demon’s Souls, and Bloodborne, is supposedly the director of the allegedly upcoming Dark Souls 3. It seems that Bandai Namco will be officially announcing the game at E3 2015, at least as far as sources have leaked. It’s just that, well…
…I had kind of hoped that it was going to be Hayao Miyazaki who was going to direct it.
Anyways, back to the important news. Bandai Namco is planning to announce Dark Souls 3, it will be directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, and that’s all we know so far. I suppose it makes sense. The Dark Souls series is known for being so difficult that it sends monsters to your house to beat you up and call you names, so it wouldn’t have really matched up for Hayao Miyazaki to direct it.
But imagine the game we could have if it had been Hayao Miyazaki. It would have been about the coming of age of knight and monster, how both battled bitterly, only to learn lessons about themselves and the world around them. They would have struggled against adversity, both against each other, and against the rules that society and culture placed upon them.
I’m sure the version of Dark Souls 3 that eventually gets released will be great, and I’m positive it will be as fun as any of the other games in the series. That doesn’t mean I won’t sit here, pining away for what might have been.
