Google has a new Android app that lets you input text using handwriting. It is allows you to handwrite text on your phone or tablet in 82 languages. The Input also supports hundreds of emojis, so you can express yourself in any Android app. This handwriting keyboard automatically converts your handwriting to a text and shows some other candidates (long press the centered candidate to see even more suggestions). Google Handwriting is available on Google.com from your smartphone or tablet, and can be activated or disabled in your mobile search settings.
The only area where the app seemed to struggle was cursive—print seems to be the way to go for the greatest level of accuracy. You can search by writing just a few letters at a time. From there, you may see an autocompletion for exactly what you’re looking for – just tap it to search. This handwriting keyboard has earned 4.7 out of 5 stars on the Google Play store, indicating that most users are finding the app highly functional.
Google’s app claims to support even terrible handwriting, but that’s not always the case. Sometimes a poorly written letter can make the app return incorrect results, especially for less common words. Writing with straight block letters will return the best results. Currently, Google Handwrite works for iOS5+ devices, Android 2.3+ phones and Android 4.0+ tablets and it’s available for 27 languages. Try writing with Google Handwrite with your thumb while holding your phone with the same hand, it’s pretty handy!
