Malaysia Airlines Plane Crashes Again, 295 Killed

Malaysia Airlines flight MH-17 route Amsterdam-Kuala Lumpur Malaysia falls on the border of Ukraine and Russia. It was flying just 1,000 feet above restricted airspace when it was shot down, according to the European air traffic control body.

Eurocontrol said Ukrainian authorities had barred aircraft from ground level to 32,000 feet but the doomed aircraft was cruising at 33,000 feet, still within range of sophisticated ground-to-air weaponry, when it was hit. All flights in eastern Ukraine have now been barred from the area, Eurocontrol added.

Airlines were asked not to overfly Crimea, the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov due to the potential for conflicting air traffic control instructions between Ukrainian and Russian authorities.

“People said the plane kind of exploded in the air, and that everything rained down in bits and pieces, the plane itself, the people inside,” said Noah Sneider, an American freelance journalist who interviewed witnesses at the scene.

Vice President of Malaysia Airlines Europe Huib Gorter told reporters of the known nationalities of the crew and 280 passengers Malaysia Airlines Flight MH-17
