Nest has freshly announced the Cam IQ, an indoor security camera that can be connected to your iPhone or Android device. Using the camera, not only can you get a visual of your home, but also recognize the people that are walking around your home thanks to the built-in facial recognition technology.
This feature was previously available to only those with a Nest Aware subscription, so it’s good to know that users no longer need this to access the feature. The $10 per month subscription is still available, however, and will give you access to a handful of extra features. Users also have access to picture-in-picture mode to give them a view of two rooms from one screen.
The Cam IQ comes with an 8MP 4K resolution sensor along with 12X digital zoom. Further, the camera supports night vision mode thanks to two 940nm infrared LEDs.
The camera is equipped with three microphones capable of echo and noise cancellation. The company claims that the microphones are made using a special plastic that can easily disperse heat. There’s also a speaker onboard that is said to be seven times more powerful than the one on the standard Nest Cam.
The Cam IQ is currently available on pre-order in the U.S. and will set you back by $299 for one and $498 if you buy two units together. You will have to shell out ?299 in the UK or EUR349 in France, Netherlands, Belgium, or Ireland. The company will start taking pre-orders for the Cam IQ in Germany, Austria, Italy, and Spain starting June 13.
