Twitter has launched a new live video streaming app called Periscope, the app allows users to watch and record live video of people’s surroundings.
The app looks set to take on Meerkat, an app that took off earlier this month and also allows users to livestream through their phone.
Unlike Meerkat, Perisope lets users save streams so they can be replayed later. This might not sound like a big deal, but one of the downsides to Meerkat, Periscope’s closest competitor, is that streams are frequently finished by the time users discovered the link to watch annoying. Introducing a saved stream function avoids that problem for Periscope fans.
The new Periscope app allows you to replay your broadcast and you can reply your video for up to 24 hours. You can also share your live video with your followers on Twitter, there is also an option to share a private broadcast with specific followers.
The app will work on iOS, with an Android version set to launch soon. Streams can also be viewed on any web browser, with or without a Periscope account.
