Daylight saving time (DST) or summer time (see "Terminology") is the practice of advancing clocks during summer months by one hour so that light extends into the evening hours—sacrificing normal sunrise times. Typically, users of DST adjust clocks forward one hour near the start of spring and adjust them backward in the autumn to "normal" or regular time.[1] Almost all technological devices - from smartphones alarm you rely on your workstation computer, it should automatically update the internal clock to account for changes. However, there are some notable exceptions to this rule that all your technology will automatically update. Most devices without an Internet connection will require manual updates. This includes your microwave, stove, and any analog clock. Windows computer requires Windows Update should be enabled to automatically adjust their hours. Some users have turned off the Windows Update function for security reasons or have them turned off by the administrator. Be aware that this computer may require manual update of Daylight Saving Time. Some old iPhones and iPads also need to Location Services enabled to automatically update. This setting is often turned off to improve battery life. However, if you are running iOS 5 or later (iOS 8.1 is the latest version) then you will be able to update your iDevice itself independently Location Services. Some Linux servers require manual updates. Easy Ways to Prepare for Daylight Saving Time
  1. Start going to sleep earlier tonight. Vanderbilt Sleep Disorders Center specialist Kelly Brown, M.D., tells the Vanderbilt Reporter to start preparing tonight by getting to sleep 15 minutes earlier than usual, and waking up 15 minutes earlier tomorrow morning. By the time we spring forward, you’ll have adjusted.
  2. Stick to your normal weekday sleep schedule on the weekend. Resist the urge to stay out late on Saturday and hit the snooze button on Sunday this weekend if you’re particularly sensitive to the daylight saving time shift.
  3. Turn off the House of Cards marathon. Power down distractions like the TV, cell phone, and laptop well before bedtime—the blue light they emit suppress melatonin secretion, disrupting sleep.
  4. Get Regular Exercise, while it might be hard to force yourself into bed a few minutes earlier, making sure to fit in some exercise is especially important if you are trying to maintain a sleep schedule.According to the National Sleep Foundation, people who report regular exercise sleep better than non-exercisers who sleep the same number of hours. In fact, it is reported that vigorous exercise isn’t necessary to get better sleep; simply walking, or even working in your garden can help you exert the energy you need to sleep better that night.
  5. Freshen Up Your Garden, If it isn't quite warm enough for you to start planting your favorite spring flowers, you can at least freshen up your garden to get it looking healthy, happy and ready for new seasonal additions. On one of the warmer early spring days, head outside and start pulling weeds and pruning dead branches and plants. Then, spread a new layer of mulch around your healthy garden plants to keep them that way until you're ready to plant more.
  6. Decorate the Patio With Some Plants, It's almost time to start spending your evenings relaxing on your patio, so do a little patio prep. Clean the furniture, change the lightbulbs, sweep the floor and add some container plants to make it look inviting and pretty. Start with some evergreens while the weather is still a little chilly, such as a dwarf Alberta spruce or a topiary juniper. As the weather warms up, add container plants that will thrive in the spring, like tulips and daffodils.
  7. Clean the Grill, Are you looking forward to barbecue season? If so, scrubbing the dust from your grill should be an important part of your spring cleaning to-do list. Use dish soap to cut through any leftover dirt and grease that's been sitting on your grill all winter, and soon it'll be squeaky clean and ready for hot dogs and hamburgers!
  8. Pick Up a Spring Centerpiece, Nothing says spring is coming like a beautiful spring centerpiece for your dining room table. Celebrate daylight saving time with a pretty bouquet of spring blooms, like carnations, tulips, chrysanthemums, gerberas or hyacinth. Shop for a spring bouquet!
  9. Try a New Coat of Paint , A deep spring clean may be just the way to get your house feeling fresh after a long weekend, but if you're looking for an even bigger change, try a fresh coat of paint in your kitchen or living room. Paint is an inexpensive way to instantly change the look and feel of a room, so it's a great update to make without breaking the budget. Try a sage green or soft yellow that will get you excited for spring but look amazing all year-round.
