Just a month ago, virtual world was in a state of utopia for the coming of Meerkat, a streaming video application which enables us to stream videos live to the internet. Just a month ago, almost everybody in twitter tweeted about Meerkat. Even it was recorded that on March 15, 2015 Meerkat was growing 30 percent daily.
However, since a few days ago we have been experiencing such phenomenon indicates that our Meerkat is endangered. Yes, our lovely meerkat is endangered by the born of its competitor, twitter Periscope.
Both Meerkat and Periscope offer the same experience in online video streaming: You can instantly and easily broadcast live events you’re doing, enabling your friends and followers on Twitter to click on a broadcast and tune in.
So why should we be bothered by their race? Which one we should choose between Meerkat and Periscope? Me myself not using both of the apps, but honestly I love the way Periscope choose its slogan “Explore the world through someone else’s eyes.”
Although it is too soon to declare the extinction of Meerkat, but it is true that by Twitter had officially launched Periscope (and decided to cut out Meerkat temporarily by setting off its Twitter integration) surely left Meerkat users with a hard way to keep connected to their friends on twitter. Such a cruel way to knock your competitor down I think.
Although Meerkat counter back by adding new cool features to its app, but still Twitter quickly broke into the top 10 social networking apps in the App Store, and became a trending topic on Twitter. Frankly speaking, Meerkat is now the underdog, and this status can be a powerful weapon. Twitter atrocity to cripple Meerkat still leaving a bad impression to a lot of people. So, let’s the competition begin then.
